How to Calculate Electrical Panel Replacement Cost Step by Step Guides
Our tool is designed for easy use by both homeowners and contractors. Here’s how to navigate it for best results:
Step 1: Select Panel Size
Choose from the dropdown menu:
- 100 Amp (small homes or older buildings)
- 150 Amp (mid-size homes or additions)
- 200 Amp (modern homes with HVAC, EVs, etc.)
This changes your material and labor estimate dynamically.
Step 2: Input Local Labor Rate
Enter the per-hour rate for a licensed electrician in your region. Texas defaults to $32/hr, but you can adjust.
Step 3: Enter Estimated Labor Hours
Our default range is 6–12 hours depending on panel complexity. More complex jobs may take longer. Enter the figure your contractor suggests.
Step 4: Add Permit Fee
Contact your city or local building office to find the actual permit cost and input it into the calculator.
Step 5: Adjust Site Complexity Factor
Use the multiplier to account for older wiring or hard-to-access panel locations:
- 1.0 = Simple replacement
- 1.2 – 1.5 = Older or complicated homes
Step 6: Choose Optional Upgrades
Toggle the boxes to include optional services:

These options immediately add their cost to your estimate.
Step 7: Confirm Waste and Contingency
Keep the default 5% waste and 7% contingency, or increase if your home has hidden issues.
